The St Colmcilles community came together for their AGM on the 1st of February at St Peters RFC Newport Road. It is often a period of change as we welcome new faces and offer our thanks to those players and club members who have moved on. This year was no different as team manager Nevin Riches stepped down from his position after a successful year in charge during which he guided the team to the Gloucestershire League title. The club offer a sincere thanks to Nevin for his unwavering commitment and passion in all aspects of his position.

Into the fold steps St Colmcilles legend Marty Dolan. Marty has decided to hang up his boots after 17 years (give or take) of representing the club on the field. I say give or take as our records only go back so far! What we do know is that Marty has more medals than Col Nathan R. Jessup in A Few Good Men and a far nicer haircut. It had been mentioned that Marty, before being appointed, had threatened to build a wall between Cardiff and the Bristol based clubs and would be sending the bill to Timmy O’Loughlin of St. Nicks. These reports were unconfirmed by Marty’s representatives at the time of going to print (he hadn’t text me back). Marty has been a pillar in supporting the St Colmcilles community since his arrival from his beloved Fermanagh in the year 2000. We wish him all the best for the year ahead.

One of Marty’s first tasks as manager was to appoint  club captain and Dan McCool has taken up the role once again after a successful campaign last year. Mossy Bourke has also stepped into a coaching role as St Colmcilles look to build on their league title in 2016.

There is a players meeting to be held on the 1st of March at 7pm in St Peters RFC just off Newport Road in Cardiff. Anyone interested to getting involved with the club in any capacity is encouraged to come along as you are most welcome. So if you fancy playing, just training to keep fit, carrying water bottles or kit, being our team photographer, graphic designer, helping to promote the club or helping out with the committee or administration of the club then please do come along!

Best wishes to everyone for the year ahead!

Colmcilles Abu!
